GPF 14 – Measuring Route Server Filtering

Measuring Route Server Filtering

Doug Madory, Oracle

Filtering by route servers at IXPs is an integral part of internet routing hygiene, but where do we presently stand with regards to the state of route filtering at IXPs?

Using BGP data collected from Packet Clearing House and direct peering, we intend to develop a model to measure the present state of route filtering performed by numerous IXPs. This model could potentially serve as an on-going measure of MANRS IXP technical compliance as part of the MANRS Observatory.
