Communication can be a challenge! We’ve all seen organisations reply-all to an IXP’s tech@ mailing list (with the best of intentions) to inquire as to why a BGP session to one of their bilateral peering partners is down.
In this talk we’ll cover novel enhancements to the BGP protocol which make it trivial to communicate meaningful maintenance notifications to your BGP neighbors. The new BGP “shutdown” features should reduce the workload for network operation centers, not only in the context of peering partners, but also provider-customer inter-organisational communication.
